About Oldbury

What we do
Rhodia's Oldbury site manufactures a range of different chemicals, all based on phosphorus.
These products are used in a wide range of everyday items such as mobile phones, children's nightwear, pharmaceuticals and detergents, as well as to treat water and help increase oil well production.

Our local community
Oldbury does all it can to maintain close relations with our neighbours. For example, we produce a regular community newsletter to keep the local community informed of the latest developments on the site. Here are the latest two newsletters:
July 2010: "Oldbury recognised for its safety record ..."read more
February 2010: "Rhodia recognised as one of the front-ranking companies worldwide in the area of social and environmental responsibility..."read more
Every two years we print a calendar which is distributed to all local residents - this also contains information on what to do in the event of a chemical incident.
Face to face discussions also take place at regular intervals with neighbours and the local trading group - these are an open forum and advertised widely in Langley village.
Latest news
A team from Oldbury was short listed in the Innovation category of the 2009 Chemical Industries Association’s Annual Awards. Their submission was for the development of a ground-breaking and environmentally sustainable product, Tolcide® PS50A. This product, which helps maximise the output from oil wells, is today sold to oil companies drilling in the North Sea, North America, Brazil and Russia.
In October, members of staff at the site donated a fantastic spread of home made cakes as part of the "World’s Biggest Coffee Morning” event for Macmillan Cancer Support. During the morning’s coffee break, the cakes were on sale together with raffle tickets. Local MP Adrian Bailey was able to draw the raffle and, thanks to all the donations, the site raised a grand total of £354 for Macmillan.
