Rhodia honours Tom Swan with International year of Chemistry Award

At the recent Chemical Industry Association annual awards dinner, held in the Great Hall of the University of Birmingham, Rhodia was pleased to sponsor the International Year of Chemistry 2011 Award.  This one-off award was created this year to recognise company, person or institution that has contributed most to the public appreciation of meeting world needs through the application of sustainable chemistry. One of the main categories of the evening, Rhodia, together with judges from the CIA, decided that Tom Swan, of Thomas Swan & Co, was the outstanding icandidate who deserved this recognition.

Handing over the specially commissioned trophy, Bob Tyler recalled Tom Swan's passion for both the chemical industry and education and highlighted his role as a key founder of the Chemical Industry Education Centre at York University and its flagship programme "Children Challenging Industry".

The Chemical Industry Awards are the premier accolades for the UK chemical industry. They are designed to offer a unique opportunity to promote and highlight excellent performance and best practice at company, site or individual level.
